Man arrested over South Australian petrol thefts

South Australian police have arrested a 33-year-old man from Elizabeth Vale over nine petrol thefts dating back to June last year.

Just after 1am this morning, a Salisbury police patrol stopped a man driving a Ford Explorer at Elizabeth North, while in the process of defecting the car, police located another set of number plates inside the vehicle.

Checks on the second set of plates showed they had been used in nine petrol drive-offs, to a value of more than $700, at a service station in Smithfield between June 2014 and April this year.

The arrested man also charged with seven counts of driving while disqualified and two counts of driving unlicensed. He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 12 November where police will be applying for compensation on behalf of the petrol station.
