New supermarket concept to open at historic Sydney site

New supermarket brand, Supamart, owned by family business Karellas Group, was named this week as one of the anchor tenants for Tramsheds Harold Park in Sydney’s inner west.

Occupying the site of the newly restored heritage-listed Rozelle Tramsheds, the newly developed food precinct is set to open in late August 2016.

The 2440sqm Supamart will offer will offer one-stop shopping experience, concentrated on fresh local food coupled with the IGA ‘Price Match Promise’.

Karellas Group managing director, Vasilli Karellas, told C&I Week, “the Tramsheds site is a great fit for us with its focus on quality food, education and sustainability.

The store is the sixth in the group’s portfolio; the company currently operates stores at Cremorne, Pennant Hills, Rose Bay, Pyrmont and Blaxland under the IGA banner. Of these, the Pennant Hills store trades under the Supamart brand and refurbishments are underway at the Rose Bay store. The company plans to rollout the Supamart brand across its entire portfolio.

Mr Karellas said: “Supamart is a completely new concept. As a family business, we are able to cater for each area we operate in and we’ll be conducting regular sampling to introduce people to incredible homegrown produce from our local suppliers.

“We’re also fiercely independent and that brings a variety of benefits to the shopper, not least of which that we’re able to source a wider range of local, market and farm-fresh products – it will be at the core of what we offer at Tramsheds.

“The Supamart concept is all about tailoring our offering to what the locals need whilst focusing on fresh produce and quality products at great prices”, Mr Karallas said.

Supamart will offer fresh produce, a delicatessen and seafood counter, onsite butchery, bakery and a dedicated health and wellbeing section alongside value-priced supermarket staples.

Tramsheds Harold Park will also house an array of food retailers providing products from fresh food to dining, seven days a week.
