Bickford’s flavour innovation reinvigorates cordial

Pink_Gfruit_optOnce the exclusive ‘welcome drink’ on Qantas International flights, Bickford’s Pink Grapefruit Cordial is now available through selected IGA stores, Foodland supermarkets and other independent retailers, with national distribution through major groups planned for the second half of 2016.

Bickford’s Pink Grapefruit Cordial is the first of three bespoke flavours to launch in retail stores, having previously only been available to Qantas International economy cabin service.

Nielsen Scan Data (MAT to 01.05.16) shows the Australian cordial category is undergoing significant changes, with annual regular cordial sales in decline while premium and syrups experience growth.

Bickford’s senior brand manager, Hugh McIntosh, said: “Hand blended with 25 per cent grapefruit juice and only natural colours and flavours, our latest flavour creates a tangy, balanced refreshment simply with the addition of still or sparkling water.”

“Given the year on year growth of the premium cordial segment against a declining category average, ranging Bickford’s cordials presents a profitable opportunity to freshen up cordial fixtures in retailers nationally,” Mr McIntosh said.
