ALDI reports market share increase

Following a recent program of expansion across Australia, supermarket chain ALDI  national market share increase strongly in Q2 2016, growing from 9 per cent in Q2 2015 to 9.5 per cent in Q2 2016.1

Despite recent media reports suggesting the chain’s “market share in NSW, Victoria and Queensland began to falter during the 2016 financial year,2” ALDI reports continuing “pleasing growth on the eastern seaboard”.

ALDI’s market share grew 0.1 per cent to 11.8 per cent in Q23 and strengthening further to a current market share of 12 per cent4.

“To further demonstrate the popularity of ALDI with Australian shoppers, we can report that sales in June this year increased by 7.1 per cent5,” the spokesperson told C&I Week.

“ALDI is proud to confirm that our market share continues to grow on both the Eastern Seaboard and now nationally.”

The spokesperson confirmed that the chain’s expansion, into both South Australia and Western Australia, has exceeded expectations, saying “shoppers in these markets responding to ALDI’s promise of high quality at permanently low prices”.
