GasBuddy revamps branding and smartphone app

GasBuddy, the US-based petrol pricing platform that enables consumers to find and share the lowest petrol prices in their area, has revamped its branding and upgraded its smartphone app.

As part of the app’s redesign, GasBuddy has increased its fuel price data, added service station ratings and created what it describes as a more “immersive way” users can earn points and win free petrol. Branding changes include a reimagined company logo and tagline; “For the Road Ahead.”

“Since the launch of GasBuddy in Australia the reception has been incredible. We receive on average 20,000 price reports a day, all entered by the community,” Nic Moulis, country manager for GasBuddy, said.

Mr Moulis said that in addition to crowdsourcing, GasBuddy is also receiving extremely accurate and current direct petrol price information from additional sources in the country.

The new redesigned GasBuddy app includes the following updates:

  • Enhanced search and filters – To help users better find what they want while on the road, GasBuddy has added additional filter options. Users can now customise search results to show petrol stations by preferred brand along with specific desired amenities such as carwashes or air for their tyres.
  • New station ratings – Over the years petrol stations have expanded from providing just fuel to building a more robust offering such as with fresh foods and improved customer experience. The new rating system in GasBuddy gives the driver the ability to share their thoughts about various aspects of a station and convenience store, such as restroom cleanliness, outdoor lighting, and service quality.
  • Challenges’ – Members will find more ways to earn GasBuddy points to enter the daily drawing for a chance to win $100 worth of fuel. The new version of GasBuddy includes daily, weekly, and monthly ‘challenges’ such as reporting a certain number of prices in a time period. By completing Challenges, users will be awarded new Achievement badges and additional GasBuddy points.
  • Modern look – User feedback has be used to give the app a streamlined interface and icons for increased information and easier viewing. A new navigation tool makes the experience quicker and provides access to often used items.

GasBuddy relies on users to submit the latest petrol prices as well as the retailer’s location. Users have to download the app to be able to report prices, and prices can only be updated once they have been confirmed by other users who have also seen that price at a specific location. Users are also rewarded for entering the data with points, which can accumulate into rewards such as fuel vouchers.

Its debut in Australia in March this year marked GasBuddy’s first market outside of the US and Canada. In the US, the app has been downloaded 56 million times, has 15 million monthly users and generates more than 2 million user-submitted price updates every day.
