The Australasian Association of Convenience Stores (AACS) has provided a voice for the convenience industry for over 25 years. At the association’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday November 15, 2016 a new board was appointed to serve the organisation over the next 12 months.
AACS is the peak body for the convenience industry in Australia and represents the interests of these businesses, large or small, their owners, staff, suppliers and customers. Nationally the convenience industry employs over 40,000 people in over 6,000 stores. The majority of these stores operate as family run businesses, often under licence or franchise agreement. They regularly employ family members and people from the local communities in which they operate.
The AACS Board comprises Directors from both retail and supplier organisations. The new board is chaired by Rob Anderson (APCO) with Julie Laycock (7-Eleven) as Vice Chair, Chris Andrianopoulos (AA Holdings) as Treasurer and Retail Directors Karim Sumar (Caltex), Darren Park (UCB) and Steve Cardinale (New Sunrise). Two new Retail Board members Amanda Woollard (GM Retail BP) and Andrew Davis (GM Retail VIVA Energy) joined the board. The Board’s Supplier Directors are Brett Barclay (Shoppertracker), James Lane (CCA) and Caroline Waite (Frucor).
The Board took the opportunity to thank Peri Hunter (BP) who has now retired from the Board. Ms Hunter previously served as an AACS Board member and also Chair of the Association. The Board thanked Ms Hunter for her dedication and the great leadership she provided to the Board and Association and wished her well for the future.
AACS continues to champion the convenience channel through representation innovation, communication and education. Over the years AACS training programs and workshops have earned an excellent reputation the organisation continues to bring relevant programs to its members.
AACS CEO, Jeff Rogut thanked all Board members past and present for their service. “They give willingly and freely of their time for the betterment of our industry and that is to be commended.”
