Grocery chain collapses

The discount grocery chain NQR went into voluntary administration late January 2018.

The clearance store is Australian owned, with stores exclusively in Victoria.

Its websites states: “NQR is a grocery clearance company that offers savings of up to 70% to 80% on your weekly shopping bill. We stock a large and ever changing range of big brand and premium quality, essential and specialty items in our stores every day”.

The chain had previously been rescued from administration in 2009 by the Gillespie family, the founders of Bakers Delight.

Fairfax reported that the business is still owned by the Gillespie family and will be put up for sale however some unprofitable stores will face closures.

Cor Cordis managing partner and NQR administrator Bruno Secatore said: “We are in the process of finalising the review of each store’s profitability and a decision regarding any closures will be made later today and relayed to the relevant stores accordingly”.

Customers of the chain have been writing and posting their disappointment in response to the store closures, on the company’s Facebook page.
