PAK’nSAVE personal shopper system

Zebra Technologies Corporation, an innovator at the edge of the enterprise with solutions and partners that enable businesses to gain a performance edge, announces the popular New Zealand supermarket chain PAK’nSAVE has successfully deployed Zebra’s PS20 personal shopper handheld computers within its SHOP’n GO system across some of its  supermarkets (in the lower North Island) to enhance its customer experience.

As a result of deploying Zebra’s PS20 personal shopper system, PAK’nSAVE stores can offer faster checkout with increased time savings for frontline employees and customers. In fact, customers with large shopping lists have reported saving up to 30 minutes for a single shopping trip by using the scan-as-you-go devices.

“Shoppers like the speed and convenience. The interactive grocery experience has reduced the time spent during the checkout by allowing customers to pack their groceries as they shop and pay speedily at the end of their visit,” said Dean Galt, owner-operator of PAK’nSAVE Kilbirnie store in Wellington. “While SHOP’n GO may be a significant technological investment, it can help our customers and our team save time and cost.”

Supermarkets are constantly seeking innovative solutions to provide improved shopping experiences, especially for customers with full shopping carts. Given the sheer number of items that need to be processed at the cashier, PAK’nSAVE customers who are shopping in bulk can experience longer checkout times, while shoppers who have popped in for a few items have an advantage. The PAK’nSAVE team wanted to see what they could do to even things up a little.

“PAK’nSAVE realized that unlike frequent travelers who enjoy the benefit of going through express check-in lanes at the airport, customers with a full shopping cart at a supermarket have to put up with a longer checkout process,” said Aldas Palubinskas, Managing Director of Mobico, a Premier Solutions Partner within Zebra’s PartnerConnect Program.

“Our personal self-scan solution speeds up the process of paying at the till as shoppers can track their total spend as they shop. They can also pack their items based on their individual preferences, resulting in a more efficient unpacking process at home,” said Palubinskas.

To introduce a shopping experience that is more efficient, accurate, and user-friendly, Mobico developed the SHOP’n GO system with Zebra’s PS20 personal shopper. The self-scanning technology effectively stores PAK’nSAVE’s transactional data, allowing the order to be paid for instantly at the point of payment.

“We’re excited to be part of PAK’nSAVE’s journey by offering a performance edge with the innovative scan-as-you go system to maintain a high level of efficiency and enhanced customer service,” said Tom Christodoulou, Regional Director of Australia and New Zealand, Zebra Technologies. “We are delighted to see a retailer like PAK’nSAVE leveraging the benefits of advanced technology to make a real difference to the way customers shop.”

  1. In today’s day Technology can be most broadly defined as the entities, both material and immaterial, created by the application of mental and physical effort in order to achieve some value. In this usage, technology refers to tools and machines that may be used to solve real-world problems.

  2. There is no risk of side effects if you decide to turn it off. Our recommendation is that if your system is running well, leave it on. If you have issues with high HDD usage, high RAM usage, or degraded performance during RAM-heavy activities, then try turning it off and see if it helps.

The environmental impact of social and economic activity is profoundly affected by the rate and direction of technological change. New technologies may create or facilitate increased pollution or may mitigate or replace existing polluting activities.
