Industry input sought for Australia’s Bioenergy Roadmap

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has put the call out for bioenergy sector stakeholders to have their say on the development of the Bioenergy Roadmap.

The roadmap, who is being developed with assistance from consortium ENEA Consulting and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, will outline the role bioenergy will play in Australia’s move into renewable energy and aassit in Australia meeting its target for reducing its emissions.

It will also be used as a tool to inform any investment and policy decisions in the bioenergy sector going forward. It’s also hoped it will help enhance Australia’s energy security.

The roadmap will focus on key areas of quantifying economic opportunities for Australia, especially regional Australia, the potential for biofuels to ‘decarbonise’ out industrial and transport sectors, indentify areas for competitive advantage in Australia, highlight any economic or regulatory impediments and provide a clear overview that will help inform the industry and governments ahead of future decisions.

The roadmap is available for public consultation and ARENA are seeking input from stakeholders through either workshops, interviews and open submissions.

ARENA CEO Darren Miller said the roadmap, expected to be completed by the end of the year, will help drive outcomes for the industry’s future.

“The development of the Bioenergy Roadmap presents an opportunity to allow industry leaders, researchers and the public to provide insight into the current state of bioenergy in Australia and how best we can grow the sector in the future,” Mr Miller said.

“It will also be an important input into the Australian Government’s Technology Investment Roadmap which will be released for public consultation soon.”

Businesses, research groups, industry associations, community groups and the public can provide submissions until May 29.
