CCA win coveted sustainable packaging award

Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) has won big at the PIDA awards, organised by the Australian Institute of Packaging and Packaging New Zealand.

The prestigious packaging awards recognise organisations who have created innovative packaging and packaging materials or processing for liquid, dry tea, coffee, water, soft drinks and wine, beer and spirits.

Entries are judged on sustainable packaging, as well as packaging changes being made to work toward 2025 National Packaging Targets.

One of the most coveted nods is the Sustainable Packaging Design of the Year Special Award, which was this year split into two sub-categories, with CCA taking out the Retail Pack.

CCA won the Gold for converting their single serve PET bottles from petroleum-based PET resin to 100% post-consumer recycled PET resin – a world-first. While silver went to Pact Group for their New Zealand brand Earthwise. Bronze went to Western Australia’s Brownes Dairy for their Australian first in a renewable gable top milk carton.

CCA also took out joint first place for the Packaging Innovation and Design of the Year award in the Beverage category, with silver going to Brownes.

In Australia, 70% of CCA’s bottles are made from 100% recycled plastic.

The awards are a precursor to the World Packaging Organisation’s WorldStar Awards.
