ACCC CEO Scott Gregson to depart for ASIC Role

Scott Gregson, CEO of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) will leave the agency to become the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

Gregson, who has been with the ACCC for nearly 30 years, will take up his new position at ASIC in mid-March after a period of leave. A recruitment process for his replacement will begin soon.

“This is a great loss for the ACCC and a great gain for ASIC,” Gina Cass-Gottlieb said. “Scott Gregson has made an enormous contribution during his time at the ACCC, and he will be sincerely missed.”

Gregson joined the ACCC as a graduate in 1996 and has held several senior roles, including executive general manager of both the Merger and Authorisation Review Division and the Consumer Enforcement Division. He was appointed CEO in August 2020.

Reflecting on his tenure, Gregson said he had enjoyed his time at the ACCC and was excited about his new role.

“I have loved working at the ACCC for almost three decades. I believe so strongly in its role and how it delivers for the community,” he said. “I have been fortunate to work with amazing colleagues and under exceptional leadership, but I now look forward to contributing to the important work at ASIC.”

Cass-Gottlieb praised Gregson’s leadership and dedication, highlighting his commitment to improving organisational operations and championing diversity and inclusion initiatives.

“Scott’s advocacy for gender diversity and bridging the pay gap, as well as his efforts to support First Nations employees, have helped position the ACCC to better represent the community we serve,” she said.
