Andrew Hicks to depart Woolworths Group after 16 years

Woolworths has announced that Andrew Hicks, Chief Marketing Officer, will leave the company on 30 June 2025 after 16 years with the organisation.

Hicks, who has been the company’s longest-serving CMO, has played a key role in the growth of Woolworths’ portfolio of brands since stepping into the role in 2019. Over his tenure, he has contributed to the company’s strategic direction, marketing initiatives, and customer engagement efforts.

Reflecting on his time at Woolworths, Hicks said, “It has been an enormous privilege to have been a part of the leadership team at Woolworths Group and to have been trusted with the opportunity to guide and grow such an iconic portfolio of brands.”

During his 16-year tenure, Hicks held several senior leadership positions across the Group, including Director of Marketing for Woolworths Food Group and Supermarkets. He was instrumental in the turnaround of the Woolworths brand, leading the successful “That’s why I pick Woolies” campaign. He also contributed to the transformation of BWS and the continued growth of Dan Murphy’s as a leading liquor retailer.

His leadership extended beyond marketing, playing a critical role in Woolworths’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the development of its in-house retail media business Cartology, and the establishment of the company’s overarching brand strategy.

Amanda Bardwell, CEO of Woolworths Group, thanked Hicks for his contributions, stating that Hicks has always led with care, purpose and creativity.

“We’d like to thank Andrew for his many years of support, the significant cultural change he has impacted, and for his keen insights, humour and the heartfelt customer focus he brought to our business.”

While stepping away from the CMO role, Hicks will continue to support Woolworths as a Strategic Brand Consultant as he explores future career opportunities.

“I’ve decided that it’s the right time for me to take the next step in my career and I’m really excited to pursue new opportunities. I wanted to express my gratitude to the team for striving for excellence every day and for the camaraderie over the years.”

Woolworths has not yet announced a successor for the CMO position.
