DFS report reveals efficiency gains for fuel retailers

Dover Fueling Solutions (DFS) has released a new whitepaper highlighting how small operational changes can deliver substantial savings across fuel retail sites.

Titled Fuel Retail Savings and Efficiency: Unlocking Measurable Savings Across an Entire Fuel Site, the report identifies hidden inefficiencies across forecourt and convenience store operations and provides evidence of measurable improvements through data-driven solutions.

Key findings include early leak detection preventing 9,800 litres of fuel loss over six months, self-checkout and order kiosks increasing average transaction values by up to 20 per cent, and sites using integrated systems achieving return-on-investment improvements of up to 249 per cent.

Jeroen van Pelt, Sales Director at DFS, said the whitepaper demonstrates that fuel retailers don’t need to choose between profitability and future readiness.

“With the right technology, they can reduce waste, enhance efficiency, and deliver outstanding service – all while adapting to industry change.”

Other results showed anomalies in wetstock levels being resolved 60 per cent faster, site inspections dropping by 35 per cent, and one DFS-monitored network saving more than 670,000 litres of fuel.

The report links these outcomes to improvements in wetstock visibility, dispenser durability, and loyalty integration, while noting that many inefficiencies – such as calibration drift, slow leaks, and poor customer throughput – often go undetected until systems are digitised.

In one pilot scheme, four undetected tank leaks were identified; if left unresolved for a year, they could have cost operators over €500,000 in lost product and environmental penalties.

The whitepaper also highlights wider benefits, including fewer technician callouts, improved audit readiness, and reduced emissions from unnecessary deliveries.
