Fred Harrison steps down as CEO of Ritchies

Fred Harrison has announced he will be stepping down as CEO of Ritchies Stores at the end of 2026, with Wayne Harrison taking over the role.

Fred Harrison has led Ritchies since 1994, overseeing a period of significant growth and modernisation. Under his leadership, the company expanded its store network, introduced charitable initiatives, and contributed more than $54 million to local communities.

Ritchies currently operates more than 82 supermarkets and liquor stores, employs over 6,500 staff, and generates annual turnover of about $1.5 billion, positioning it among Australia’s largest privately owned businesses and the leading independent licensed supermarket operator.

While Harrison will step down as CEO, he will continue to be involved at Ritchies as Executive Director. In this role, he will support Wayne Harrison as he transitions into the CEO position.

From February 2026, the younger Harrison will step away from his role as Victorian State Manager and take on the role of CEO Elect, in which he will report directly to his father while all other positions in Ritchies will report to him.

“This planned and structured handover will ensure the continuity of Ritchies’ values, strategy, and culture as Wayne prepares to take on this important role.

“The handover from Fred to Wayne, continues to cement Ritchies as a family-oriented company and will also ensure that the consistency and stability of the company’s leadership team continue for many more years to come,” said Ritchies in a social media post.
