Metcash launches major national month-long promotion

More than 3,200 Metcash stores will take part in Big Family, Big Prizes, a national promotion running from 8 to 28 October that gives shoppers the chance to win major prizes.

Participating retailers include IGA, IGA Liquor, IGA Local Grocer, Mitre 10, Total Tools, Home Hardware, Cellarbrations, The Bottle-O, Porters Liquor and Foodland.

Doug Jones, CEO of Metcash, said the campaign showcases the strength of Australia’s independent retail network.

“As the wholesaler behind Australia’s network of family-founded stores, we back thousands of independents every day, in support of thriving local communities.

“With 1 in 2 Australians shopping at family-founded businesses in the last month, it’s clear that supporting local remains a strong priority. By bringing 11 of the brands we support together for the first time, we’re showing the strength and value independents can deliver when they stand side-by-side.”

The initiative coincides with new research from Bastion that highlights Australians’ strong support for family-founded businesses. According to the findings, 95 per cent of Australians have shopped at a family-founded business, and one in two have done so in the past month. Eight in ten believe these stores are more involved in their local communities, while 76 per cent say they do more to support local suppliers.

By spending $25 or more in a single transaction at participating stores and uploading their receipt via QR code, shoppers can enter to win daily gift cards and one of 12 major prizes worth up to $275,000 in total. Prizes include an American Express luxury travel experience, a trip to the Heineken Singapore F1, a Milwaukee Tools garage makeover, a Kakadu adventure, and a Nashville trip to the Jack Daniel’s Distillery. Shoppers who buy participating brands will receive bonus entries.

“Family has always been at the heart of the independent retail network. Generations of local families have built businesses Australians rely on every day, and this event is about celebrating their hard work while giving shoppers an opportunity to benefit from their shared success,” said Jones.

A dedicated pop-up event in Fitzroy, Melbourne, on 9 October will showcase products from across the network, spanning grocery, liquor and hardware.
