Metcash opens one-day-only pop-up store in Melbourne

Melbourne shoppers are being treated to a unique retail event today, as Metcash opens a one-day-only pop-up on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.

The event brings together key food, liquor and hardware brands under one roof, including IGA, Mitre 10, Home Hardware, Total Tools, Bottle-O, Cellarbrations and Porters.

Doug Jones, CEO of Metcash, said as the wholesaler behind Australia’s network of family-founded stores, they back thousands of independents every day, in support of thriving local communities.

“By bringing 11 of the brands we support together for the first time, we’re showing the strength and value independents can deliver when they stand side-by-side.

“Family has always been at the heart of the independent retail network. Generations of local families have built businesses Australians rely on every day, and this event is about celebrating their hard work while giving shoppers an opportunity to benefit from their shared success.”

Visitors have access to hundreds of free and discounted household items, from groceries and pantry staples to tools and liquor, alongside free tastings and surprise giveaways. Shoppers can also enter the national Big Family, Big Prize competition for the chance to win major prizes such as an AMEX luxury travel experience worth $80,000, a trip to the Heineken Singapore Grand Prix, and an ultimate garage makeover from Milwaukee Tools.

Research from Metcash shows that almost all Australians (95 per cent) have shopped at a family-founded business, with half of all Australians visiting one in the past month.

“For those not in Melbourne, our Big Family, Big Prize competition is running nationally across more than 3,200 participating stores, so everyone can join in the celebration,” said Jones.
