Service station wins Small Business Grant

A service station in Mount Pritchard, New South Wales is refreshing their look and customer service in time for the busy summer holidays after winning one of 120 Small Business Grants worth $5,000 as part of the nation-wide American Express Shop Small campaign.

Jamil El-Khoury, owner of Speedway Petroleum Meadows, said the grant could not have come at a better time after a challenging financial period and increased competition.

“I couldn’t believe we had won the grant! I re-read the notification letter a couple of times because small businesses don’t often get a helping hand like this.

“We’ve been through a really tough few years and the $5,000 American Express Small Business Grant will help us reconnect with our customers. We plan to offer new and exciting in-store competitions and giveaways for people that pass through and the timing couldn’t be better with the summer holidays on our doorstep.” said Mr El-Khoury.

According to American Express Managing Director Rachel Stocks, “It’s great to see that the money from the Small Business Grant will make a positive impact on the future growth of Speedway Meadows. We all should do our best to recognise the contribution that small businesses make to the Australian economy by ‘shopping small’.”

American Express is rewarding small businesses with $600,000 worth of Business Grants until November 2014 and each successful business will receive $5,000.
