Victorian government launches new Servo Saver app

Victorian motorists can now compare petrol prices in real time through the new Servo Saver feature on the Service Victoria app.

The government said the tool could help motorists save up to $333 a year at the pump by making it easier to find the cheapest fuel nearby.

Premier Jacinta Allan said the new system aims to give families more control over their fuel spending.

“We’re capping and locking fuel price rises and helping you save money at the servo.

“We know this won’t change everything for families who are doing it tough, but these savings can add up to hundreds of dollars a year.”

Servo Saver is part of the Allan Labor Government’s Fair Fuel Plan, which requires retailers to report fuel prices in real time. More than 1,200 retailers across Victoria are already complying with the new mandatory reporting system.

That price data is fed directly into the app, allowing drivers to see where they can get the best deal in their area or along their route.

Nick Staikos, Minister for Consumer Affairs, said Servo Saver would help motorists make more informed choices.

“Servo Saver is designed to enable motorists to make informed decisions about where to fill up, while giving retailers greater control over how they advertise their petrol prices.”

The next phase of the Fair Fuel Plan will cap fuel prices once a day, preventing retailers from raising prices for 24 hours once set, although they can still reduce them during that period.

Currently, fuel price reporting in Victoria is voluntary and often inconsistent. The government said Servo Saver would cover every fuel provider, would not be advertiser funded, and would not promote specific outlets.
