Why numbers matter

United Convenience Buyers (UCB) recently held a 24-hour Sale Day where members could stock up on big brand products at the best possible prices – and it was a resounding success.

Over the 24-hour period, more than 500 member orders were placed, with over 80,000 cartons sold.

The UCB team set their sights on creating a sale experience that further built on its successful 2020 Virtual Trade Show. What they delivered were bigger and better buying opportunities to set their members up for the busy Christmas trading period.

Darren Park, CEO, UCB, is deeply passionate about the Australian petrol and convenience (P&C) industry and is always looking for new ways to give UCB members an edge.

With this year’s UCB Conference being postponed until April 2022, he challenged the UCB team and channelled the support of their trade partners to deliver a sales event where 50 per cent off standard pricing was almost the norm.

“The UCB 24-hour Sale Day was an absolute success. We secured some amazing deals and members were offered pricing that hadn’t been seen since the 90s,” said Park.

“We wanted our members to have the best lead-up to the holiday season, by stocking up on big brand products at amazing prices.

“What followed was a true demonstration of what a collaborative and engaged buying group community can really do when members’ success is the priority. Trade partners and the UCB team worked tirelessly together to build a range of hot deals across big brands for all the UCB members – and the results told the story of our success.

“We quickly learned that this sale day was going to be different. Members got in early, with the first order in at 4:54am. We didn’t look back, the orders just kept pouring in. We were kept busy all day until our last member order came in with just 18 seconds to go.

“Thank you to all the members that got behind the Sale Day and to our trading partners for their strong support to make it our biggest yet.”

John Blazely from United Retail Group in Victoria, said: “We took advantage of the excellent promotional prices for all of our stores. The order process was very user friendly. It’s a great way to support UCB and the trade partners – here’s to getting the deals onto shop floor and rewarding our customers with some great offers as the state opens back up in the run up to Christmas.”
