Aldi introduces Australia’s first pizza vending machine

Aldi Corner Store in North Sydney is now home to Australia’s first pizza vending machine, delivering hot pizza in just two minutes.

Partnering with Bondi start-up Placer Robotics, Pizzabot can cook up to 450 pizzas a day but only includes two flavours at the moment – Pepperoni and Italiana – both priced at $8.99.

Huw Longman, Director of Aldi Corner Store, said they are confident that this will be a good, different lunch experience for North Sydneysiders.

“We understand our shoppers are motivated by quality, value and supporting local, and we are extremely excited by our collaboration with Pizzabot, a true Aussie innovation, to deliver great quality pizza and a unique experience, at the lowest price point.”

The pizzas bases are made and partially cooked in Bondi and topped with ingredients and are then chilled in Pizzabot’s temperature controller ensuring they are ready to be cooked in just minutes.

Matt Lipski, Founder and Managing Director of Pizzabot, said they’re bringing restaurant quality pizzas to Aldi Corner Store customers.

“Our vision was to give time-poor consumers restaurant grade pizza that is quick, delicious, healthy and affordable. With their contemporary format and focus on the highest quality, local ingredients at an affordable price, it was clear from the beginning that the ALDI Corner Store was our ideal collaborator to launch Pizzabot in Australia.”

Pizzabot is currently just a trial and available at Aldi Corner Store for a limited time. Aldi said there are no plans to launch Pizzabot in its standard stores.
