Redfern C-store brawl; 12-year old armed robber in Qld

An inner city c-store owner was the victim of a brawl over the weekend.

Redfern C-store owner caught up in brawl

A fight broke out at popular a Redfern convenience store last Friday night, resulting in three hospitalisations and two arrests.

Police used pepper spray to subdue the brawl after four men entered the c-store, where the brawl allegedly broke out after a refusal to put out a cigarette in store.

Store owner Hazem Sedda alleged that he was punched in the side of the head as he tried to move the men out of his store.

Mr Sedda and a 24-year-old were treated at the scene for their injuries and the effects of the pepper spray, before being taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment.

Another man was taken to hospital for injuries to his ribs.

The two other men involved were arrested not far from the c-store by police but were later released without charge.

A spokesperson for NSW Police said they were still trying to find out why the brawl broke out.

“The appeal for public information remains pertinent,” she said.

On his store’s Instagram page Mr Hazem said he was thankful for the support from fans.

“Thanks for the texts, calls, Instagram messages, Facebook messages and visiting our store to check on me,” he said.

Despite the events of Friday night Mr Hazeem still appears to be happy in Redfern.

“All I want to say that Redfern is amazing and I love Redfern,” he said.

Pre-teen charged with armed hold-up

An Upper Coomera boy has been charged with one count of armed robbery after allegations that he robbed a service station at knifepoint.

It was alleged that the 12-year-old entered that store around 9pm and threatened staff with a knife before demanding money.

He then allegedly escaped the store with cash to a nearby property where he was found by police a short time later.

A spokesperson for Queensland Police said the boy had been charged and that was the end of their involvement with the matter.

Coles Express Upper Coomera declined to comment on the incident.

No one was injured during the robbery.
