Drakes has announced the acquisition of IGA Mount Barker and Mount Barker Cellarbrations for an undisclosed sum.
The addition of the sites brings Drakes’ portfolio to a total of 67 stores, and Mount Barker Cellarbrations becomes the sixth location under the Cellarbrations banner.
Jo Elson, Owner of IGA Mount Barker, said she is very pleased that Drakes Supermarkets, a successful family-owned company in South Australia will be taking over Mount Barker IGA and Cellarbrations.
“I have loved my time in Mount Barker for the past 11 years and are proud of the team we have built and had the pleasure to work with. I’ve enjoyed being part of and supporting community events and sporting clubs, local suppliers and trades people and creating local jobs. Most importantly, thank you to the customers and community, who have shopped with me over the years.”
Drakes is promising an enhanced shopping experience to the Mount Barker community, with an expanded product range, and extensive meat selection and quality fresh produce, supplied directly from Drakes Distribution Centre, Edinburgh.
John-Paul Drake, Director of Drakes, hopes they can make Elson proud by continuing to build on her hard work.

Drakes said it will retain, and continue to work alongside, the existing team members of the Mount Barker stores, with rebranding to a Drakes mini taking place on 8 April 2024.
