IGA has today launched a national grocery delivery service in IGA Shop.
While some independent family owned stores already offer delivery services, this is the first national platform for the retailer and follows the success of their Priority Shop service introduced during COVID-19.
The retailer has said hundreds of its stores throughout Australia will offer the service, which will include more than 1,800 products from its pantry, fridge and freezer departments. And in keeping with IGA’s local-centric ethos, deliveries will be sent from shoppers’ nearest participating store. However, as prices can vary between stores, final costs will be confirmed between the owner and customer.
Unlike other delivery services, orders placed through igashop.com.au will be sent to a customer’s local store, where a store representative will contact the customer to complete the order.
Metcash Food’s EGM Retail Channels Danielle Jenkinson said they were thrilled to offer an online service that supported local communities.
“While we prefer to serve our customers face to face, we’ve developed this online solution because we know some of our local shoppers aren’t able to get out to the shops right now or would prefer to stay away,” Ms Jenkinson said.
“We aren’t yet experts at home delivery, so please bear with us as we iron out any kinks and improve the online shopping experience. It’s definitely not perfect, but we’ve built this solution quickly to ensure that IGA retailers are able to continue to support their local communities as only they know how.”
