Do you (or someone you know) have a bright idea that would contribute to the future of convenience? The Australian Association of Convenience Stores (AACS) is seeking entries from young supplier and retail members to enter the annual AACS Peter Jowett industry award.
Entrants are to submit a presentation outlining two ‘bright ideas’ they believe will ensure the profitable growth of convenience stores into the future; utilising key findings and/or examples from other channels or industries together with the relevant timing, costs and benefits associated with implementing their ‘bright ideas’.
Participants will have the opportunity to shine on the convenience stage at the annual AACS Convenience Leaders Summit and Gala Dinner & Awards night, to be held in Sydney in August 2017. At this event two finalists will be selected and will then join the AACS Overseas Study Tour which includes a visit to the NACS Show in Chicago in October 2017.
About the AACS Peter Jowett Convenience Industry Award
The AACS Peter Jowett Convenience Industry Award is a unique opportunity for AACS members to challenge others in Australia thinking about the future of the convenience industry.
Employees aged between 21 and 36 years of age from AACS retailer and supplier member companies are invited to participate in this year’s competition.
Participants are to submit a written paper of no more than 4000 words or a PowerPoint presentation of 10 slides on the topic. A one page biography is also required at the time of submission.
Local judges will assess all submissions and select three supplier member finalists and three retailer member finalists. Finalists will then give a presentation of up to 12 minutes on the day of the annual AACS Convenience Leaders Summit and Gala Dinner & Awards night (planned for Wednesday August 23, 2017) in Sydney. Audience members will then vote to select the best supplier and best retailer presentation. The two chosen winners will then join the AACS Overseas Study Tour in October with expenses (including economy air travel and accommodation) paid by AACS.
Entry to the competition
Entry is open to participants between the ages of 21 and 36 years as at May 31, 2017, and employed by AACS Members. Participants may not have previously received an AACS Scholarship Award/Peter Jowett Scholarship Award.
In the past some retailers and suppliers to the industry have run an internal competition for their staff as a way of selecting their candidates. This is an excellent development program for people working in the convenience channel.
Intending participants should email jeff@aacs.org.au by Friday March 17, 2017 and must be able to present at the annual AACS Convenience Leaders Summit and Gala Dinner & Awards night in August 2017 and available to join the AACS Overseas Study Tour in October 2017. The prize is not transferable.
Submissions close on Friday, May 19, 2017.
