Man arrested after threatening to set service station on fire

A 27-year-old man was arrested after being found on the rooftop of an Ampol service station in Prospect, threatening to set the business alight.

Launceston police arrived at the service station at approximately 11:30pm on 29 November to find the Glenorchy man on the rooftop, armed with a knife, and making threats to set the business alight.

Tas Fire and Tas Ambulance joined police on the scene, where there was a standoff before the man was taken into custody without injury and detained at the Launceston Police Station for further investigations.

He was later interviewed by police and charged with arson, breach of bail, unlawfully posses a dangerous article in a public place, and recklessly discharge a missile to the danger of another person.

The man is set to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court today.
