Mobil’s Altona Refinery inducted into Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame

The Mobil Altona Refinery was inducted into the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame last week in recognition for its contribution to manufacturing excellence, at the 2015 Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony.

Altona Refinery manager, Andrew Warrell, said that Mobil Altona Refinery is honoured to be recognised as a long-standing, top-quality Victorian manufacturer, supporting local jobs and the Victorian economy.

“Every one of the 350 people working at Altona Refinery is proud of the important contribution we make to Victoria by supplying around half of the state’s petroleum fuel needs as well as indirectly supporting thousands of local jobs.”

Although Altona Refinery is relatively older and smaller when compared to new mega-refineries in the Asia Pacific region, its unique culture and operating framework, coupled with strong industrial relations and an intense safety focus make it one of the safest and most efficient refineries in the world, said Mobil Refining Australia, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Australia.

Over the last five years, Mobil has invested $300 million in maintenance and strategic improvements at Altona Refinery.

The Mobil Altona Refinery has been supplying fuel to Victoria for 60 years.

In 2014, Mobil Oil Australia signed a long-term agreement for the sale of Mobil-branded fuels to 7-Eleven convenience stores, which operates over 600 petrol convenience sites in Australia.

The 2014 agreement saw the return of the Mobil brand to Australia’s east coast metropolitan markets for the first time since the sale of ExxonMobil’s retail assets to 7-Eleven in 2010.
