PerkiiBrisbane-based probiotic brand PERKii has secured distribution in NightOwl convenience stores after raising more than $4 million in funding since its launch last year.

Created by scientists at The University of Queensland in 2015, PERKii is a low calorie, lactose-free probiotic drink that targets the digestive system.

PERKii is packaged in 300ml bottles and is available in five variants: Green Tea and Elderflower, Lime and Coconut, Raspberry and Pomegranate, Strawberry and Watermelon and Passionfruit and Mango.

Since launching PERKii has raised $4 million in seed funding from a number of investors including Uniseed, UniQuest and the Brisbane Angels.

PERKii currently has around 300 stockists including Woolworths Metro, independent grocers, gyms and cafes and recently began a trial in Lorna Jane’s Nourish Café in Brisbane.

PERKii’s CEO and former CCA executive, Randy Milne, told C&I Week new products are in development including take-home packs, expected to be released later this year, as well as 1 litre bottles and a ‘pop top’ 100ml range for kids.

Mr Milne said the company is also considering licensing its unique probiotic technology.

“The technology that we have allows us to put probiotics into any product so we’re looking at a vast variety of things like licensing the technology to manufacturers if they’re interested in putting probotics into products.

“We want to take the drink category and put it into the probotic category instead of the other way around. The dream I have for the company  is to change the beverage landscape and offer a healthier alternative to what’s currently on offer.”
