SPAR Australia breaks ground on new distribution centre

SPAR Australia has commenced construction of a new 13,400sqm distribution centre at Acacia Ridge Business Park in Brisbane.

Lou Jardin, Managing Director, SPAR Australia, said the new state of the art facility will allow SPAR to consolidate its business and will provide a platform for future growth.

SPAR has signed a 10-year lease as one of the anchor tenants of Acacia Ridge Business Park, which is being redeveloped by owner, ESR Australia.

The purpose-built distribution centre will facilitate fresh, chilled, and frozen foods, and will service the needs of SPAR’s network of independent retailers.

“The new facility at ESR’s Acacia Ridge Business Park will allow SPAR to consolidate our business and operate out of one facility, providing the ability to coordinate the supply of goods to our 200 independent Australian retailers,” said Jardin.

“SPAR has worked hard over many years to build the platform for the growth we are currently experiencing. This gives us enormous confidence for the future and I’m very appreciative that ESR has shown confidence in SPAR to be the cornerstone of this new development,” he said.

The breaking of ground ceremony was celebrated with a commemorative gold shovel to turn the sod. The shovel was given to Jardin by ESR Australia’s Queensland General Manager, Craig Robertson, as a gift to mark the significant milestone.

Robertson said: “We are delighted to be welcoming SPAR Australia as a long-term tenant to our Acacia Ridge Business Park and see the works commence today on this state of the art facility for SPAR Australia and look forward to our ongoing relationship.”

Acacia Ridge Business Park is located within Brisbane’s prime established industrial precincts. Ideally situated on an arterial road that provides easy access to Brisbane’s major transport links, the site is close to Acacia Ridge Intermodal Terminal and Archerfield Airport, and 13 km from Brisbane CBD.
