Viva Energy signs its largest renewable energy contract

Viva Energy has signed a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with energy generator Acciona Energia.

The agreement is the company’s largest ever electric and environmental certificate contract and involves renewable electricity generated from the Mt Gellibrand Wind Farm near Colac, Victoria, approximately 70km from Viva’s Geelong refinery, and will provide Viva with a substantial quantity of its power requirements.

Lachlan Pfeiffer, Chief Business Development and Sustainability Officer at Viva Energy, said he was delighted to continue the long and productive relationship between Viva Energy and Acciona Energia, which is one of the world’s largest builders and owners of renewable energy assets.

“Viva Energy signed its first PPA agreement with Acciona Energia back in 2019, helping to support and establish the development of renewable energy in the Geelong region.

“This new agreement provides both substantial power supply and LGCs to Viva Energy, supporting our ambition to reduce scope 2 emissions across our various businesses as well as providing a long-term commitment to local renewable energy generation in the greater Geelong region.”

The deal will assist Viva in meeting its group-wide emission-reduction ambitions, while it continues to explore renewable sourcing options across the country.

This PPA with Acciona Energia complements another renewable energy PPA with CleanCo Queensland which provides the power for over 110 Coles Express sites in Queensland.
