White’s IGA Forest Glen takes innovative approach to recruitment

In an effort to take the stress out of the hiring process, owners of White’s IGA in Forest Glen Queensland are ditching the traditional application process in favour of a day-long recruitment drive.

Roz and Michael White, owners of White’s IGA, are experienced, community-focused business people offering employment with career progression paths for 80 new staff as they continue to expand.

Having taken this approach with previous store openings, the husband and wife duo are again opening their doors to the public on Saturday, 8 October, from 9am to 1pm.

On-the-spot interviews will give applicants the opportunity to share their experience, expertise and areas of interest in minutes. “It’s the fourth time we have approached hiring in this way, and it would have to be one of my favourite days of the year,” says Roz White.

“We want people who have the right attitude, enjoy interacting with customers and are achievement-oriented, this is a great opportunity to become part of the wider White’s IGA family.

“We are well known for looking after our staff because we’ve built a strong ‘people first’ culture and this is reflected in the fact that we have a number of staff who have been with us for over a decade.”

Karen Baker is one such long-term staff member who has built a successful retail career after joining White’s during a similar recruitment drive at Bli Bli.

“I started as a casual checkout operator and with the guidance and support of Roz and Michael I have taken on more responsibilities, undertaken tertiary level studies through the White’s career progression program and now I am their new Store Manager for White’s IGA Forest Glen,” says Baker.

Already employing more than 400 people across Queensland, White’s creative approach to hiring and their focus on each individual staff member is proving to be a successful formula

“Every person that joins our team is important to us,” she says.

“Whether they stay for a moment, while they are studying or at school, or seeking a long-term career, each and every person has a role to play in delivering on our vision, and that is what I love about our recruitment days.”
